I recently bought my first house. As a result, I have been pondering ways to setup my new office. Because this is a house I will be living in for years to come, I have the luxury of going all out at creating the perfect office space. Below are some helpful articles I found on the subject. I’ll keep you posted about the progress of my new office as it progresses.

Magnetic Paint: Wall Transformers
“Go beyond corkboard and pins. Here’s a great tip that I found when I visited the super cool advertising firm upstairs in our building here on Crosby Street. They used one wall as a huge display board for all their presentations and they attached everything with magnets.”

Ferm Wallpaper Gives Home Office Depth
“Anna of Newburgh, NY has been renovating her home for quite some while now, and her back room turned home office has made some huge leaps forward. What started as a dirty old room was turned into a bright oasis with a nice coat of white paint. Anna even painted the wooden floor white which really brightens up the space.”

“First there was One Less Desk, now there’s One Less Office! The people who designed nesting steel desks, have now come up with a solution for people who have more than just a computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse. “

Making the Home Office Beautiful
“Maxwell did a bit of “reveal behind the curtain” posting today with his entry showing my home office. Looking at it from a guest’s perspective, I know I’d like to eventually spruce it up. Though my home office is functionally fine, it’s a room I’d love to redo with a bit more cohesive panache…”

Setting Up a Ergonomic Office

Guide to Setting Up an Ergonomic Computer Station
“Poor posture, lack of proper equipment and incorrect ergonomic information are all contributing factors to an improper computer setup. You can see, as illustrated here, that working at a computer can cause a lot of distress in a number of different parts of the body.”

Ergonomic Desk Buyers Guide
“The height and layout of your work surface play important roles in influencing your work posture and efficiency. A good ergonomic desk arrangement is one that will allow you to work most effectively in a good posture.”

Pros and Cons of Ergonomic Office Equipment
“This section explains some of the possibilities for office accessories and furniture. Although this page has to do with stuff you can buy, keep in mind that many ergonomic problems can be fixed by rearrangement, adjustment or modification of existing items.”

Setting up your home office: Ergonomics prevents strain injuries and keeps you on the job!
“When you work in an office, your employer sets you up with a desk and a keyboard drawer, an adjustable chair with a mat, and more. All the things meant to keep you working longer and off the disability roll. It’s all about ergonomics – the idea that how you position your body while you work can make all the difference. After all, you’re probably sitting in the same spot staring at your computer screen for hours at a time.”

How To Make Your Home Office More Ergonomic
“With the increase of computer-based activity both at home and at work, the need for ergonomic workstation and office set ups continues to rise. When your computer, seating or office is not set up in an ergonomic fashion a variety of health issues can surface including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Repetitive Stress Syndrome, eye strain and headaches. These conditions can impact men, women and children of all ages.”

Sitting by a windows is actually a great booster since you will not get bored or tired while just looking in to a wall.

Yeah I love my window. Except right now as the sun beats into it on a hot summer day with no air conditioning. Then I sit and get really hot all afternoon. Great in the winter though for the cool breeze.

    Hello,

very nice inspirations. My favorite: the wallpaper on the wall and on the screen - cool, but too crazy for work.

I really like a lot of these ideas / images. If only I had the space to actually do something like it!

My home office is a 100cm desk, stuck in the corner of a room. :/

I think having a very clean work space says a lot about you and you plan on working. If it is neat and clean and organized your work flow is going to go that much more smoothly. It might be a mental thing but the energy in your work space area says a lot.

Thanks a million for this article, just starting to figure out what I’m doing with my office space and found loads of helpful ideas here. The inspiration pictures really helped me decide between minimal and cosy. If only I can get my office as nice as those, I’ll be a very happy productive designer.

    Now to actually do it….

A truly amazing post, really a fantastic example on just how much of a brilliant blogger you really are Danny. Thank you so very much for this.

Great post, and one day too late for me since I just finished a massive office area redesign. Oh well. haha.

My biggest single improvement: turning my desk away from the wall so that my desk faces toward the entrance door / open space of the room. If you’re feeling boxed in at your workspace, give that tip a try.
