I constantly find my self studying good user interfaces to find out what makes them work so well. I think understanding good user interface design can help you create website designs that are more user friendly. The more user friendly a website is, the more profitable it can be. Really nice stuff.

Great examples. Kudos on finding them all. Your site isn’t so bad on the design itself, either. I know it’s a ton of work, but I’d especially love to see why you think each of them is good user interface design and maybe some common patterns we could apply to our own work or parts that you applied to yours.

I like most of these in your list. I wouldn’t have put Grooveshark in that list though. I like GS a lot and use if often. (I even have a GS widget on my own website) But the UI could use some work, imo. Browsing songs, albums, and artists can be quirky and even confusing at times.

A very effective and quite simple way to optimize the website for easier marketing and publicity. Tags play an important role in optimizing your website to be easily searched by the internet search spiders. There has been lot of advancements in the search engine algorithms that needs you to be precise while creating title tags. This is one of those crucial aspects which are overlooked by many while designing a website for their business and other corporate purposes. In the latest advancements of the search engine spiders, search engine optimization has not left by mere re occurring your desired keywords, It is highly required that your website design and content should serve as an enticement to the web spiders. It’s of no use to have a site which doesn’t comply with the standards of search spiders. I got my medical website reconstructed from a web designer and marketing company named medicalwebexperts.com. They reconstruct every page making it compliant with search engine algorithms. After a few months of time, the impact was definitely distinctive in my income. I have got a steady increase in the patients, which was a direct result of reconstructing and (re)marketing my old obsolete site.

We used basecamp when coordinating AIGA’s Design Show 2009. It worked great for uploading files, sharing information and keeping everyone in the loop. I recommend it as well! Great post.

  9. Nik says: Jul 9, 2009

I really like them, but why some of them doesn’t have a link to the real site/system?

  10. Brent says: Jul 9, 2009

Wow, you could have just linked to metalabdesign.com and told people to go through their portfolio. Would have saved some time.

    1. Carl Johan says: Jul 9, 2009

Good call to find metalabdesign. Do either of you work for them? :)

    2. Joshua says: Jul 23, 2009

Wow, yeah - This is basically the MetaLab portfolio….

Those guys do some great design, though, a lot of it really does look the same.
      ie. Fonts, Gradients, Strokes etc.

I find this article interesting, but I find most interesting is the fact that you don’t describe WHY you think these are good user interfaces?

These sites are nice to look at, but a number of them I don’t understand what they are for, or why. Perhaps a little explanation on your part would have really added to the quality of this article.

Thanks for the list anyway, provides good debate.

  12. Peter says: Jul 10, 2009

great post about good designs. One problem: if you’re going to talk about great designs, you should probably consider that your own blog’s header takes up so much space that the content on your blog barely starts above the fold on 1024×768 which is still the resolution that dominates on the internet. All of these designs have their content somewhat close to the top. Perhaps something to consider?

  13. Avery says: Jul 11, 2009

try clicking the headlines u stupid fuck

  14. UPrinting says: Jul 24, 2009

They really are great interfaces. Not the best ones out there, but great nonetheless because they are very simple. Thanks for sharing! :)
