I always love hearing about other designs experiences, motivation, and thoughts on design. Thanks to some of the graphic design blogs out there, there are plenty of interviews coming out on a regular basis. I have collected some of my favorite interviews into this list. Some of these interviews I like because of who they are with, while others are interesting because of the information provided in them. Take a look at the interviews below to get a closer look at some very popular people in the design community.

1. Graham Smith

““Greatness comes from years of experience,” he said and he’s got those years to back that statement up. With over 20 years in the design business plus “a few more” growing up as a kid involved in all things creative, Smith takes pride in the fact that his experience includes stints in industries such as commercial printing, advertising and reprography to name a few.”

2. Fabio Sasso

“Abduzeedo started in the end of 2006. My office had been robbed and I had lost my computer and all my backups for the past 6 months of work. It was really tough and I had lots of experimental works in my computer, all of which were lost. I then decided to start a blog to promote myself and backup my experimental work, which became the tutorials I do now.”

3. Liam McKay

“The name Function came about when I was thinking of what I wanted to achieve from the company. I felt that it was just as important these days to have a website which would work (function) as well as it looked. I’d seen far too many sites which looked great, but didn’t have the functionality to make it a usable site. So our goal if you like is to blend the two, functionality and great design”

4. Collis Ta’eed

“If I’m indoors I go online, especially for web design. There are so many great galleries of work and ideas out there. I also like finding stock illustrations or photos and letting them be the starting point of a design. When I’m outdoors I just look around for inspiration. I also quite like reading design magazines as they help keep me up to date with what people are up to.”

5. Adii Rockstar

“I wouldn’t change much to be honest; I really think that we’ve done really well and WooThemes’ success is evidence of the hard work that Magnus, Mark & myself has put into our business. I guess the only that I’d change is that I should’ve reinvested a bigger percentage of our income into advertising at the beginning, as I can see now what a big difference an extended ad campaign can make to theme sales.”

6. Jeff Huang

“I guess I knew I would have loved to be in the field when I first laid eyes on digital art - 3D abstracts to be specific. Since, I became intrigued with it, which eventually led me to get a copy of Photoshop (about 6 years ago). I started off like many - bumming around amateur gfx (haha, I always thought that was lame) forums and creating sigs, until I eventually registered at DeviantART and began to produce full-scale digital artwork. ”

7. Anthony Harmon

“Two gifts would forever change my life; my first snowboard and computer. I quickly traded in my spurs and lasso for punk bands, bleached hair and obscure acronyms like AFK and ROFL. There was little hope. Some of the readers may remember a client-to-server protocol named Hotline popular in the mid to late 90’s.”

8. Jonathan Wong

“I love to experiment. Simply put. I am still at a very young age. I don’t intentionally have a lot of styles but I do love to work differently from project to project. It is fun for me expanding my horizons because I get to learn a lot about myself.”

9. Darren Hoyt

“Darren Hoyt is most easily associated with being the creator of the free wordpress theme Mimbo. This simple magazine style wordpress theme really raised the standards of quality for free wordpress themes. The Mimbo theme was so good and so popular that it quickly had people asking when they would see more work from Darren.”

10. Kai Isselhorst

“It’s a big plus to learn within a group of people and sharing advice from teachers or Professors. You can grab other viewpoints and come away with a lot of experience you couldn’t gain as a self taught individual. It’s impossible to tell somebody to go one way or another of course.”
