Today’s Talking Shop with Danny Outlaw comes in the form of a mini podcast rather than a video post. Why you ask? As may or may not know, I am going to be the host for the official podcast for the TUTS+ Tutorials websites. See this post I wrote on GraphicRiver for more details. As such, i figured I should brush up on my hosting and podcasting skills a little more. Talking into a mic is a lot different that doing videos if you can believe it. I apologize for the mic quality. I will be getting areal one in a few weeks. The podcast is only a few minutes long, so just bare with me.

I appreciate the in-depth answer and suggestions. I currently work for a small design shop and these types of things are primarily only done if there is a lull. I hope to make “the switch” before long and I think that doing tutorials, reading books and creating projects that you really enjoy are vital for growth.

It’s true how hard it is to find time for your own personal projects. Once you start working for a firm or end up working full-time doing anything, web design and development has to turn into a hobby or side-project at best. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to study new concepts, nevermind complete new projects or hunt for new work.
I never thought to start the day off with personal projects, I always end up doing them in the evening for some reason. I would imagine it’s a great way to get yourself into “work mode” as well.
