All the design skill in the world won’t get you far as a freelancer unless you know how to market your self, your skills, and your business. If you are going to make it as a freelancer you need to find ways to market your self. While much of your business will come from word of mouth and repeat clients, you need to work on getting that first core set of clients.
If you want to grow as a freelancer you will not only have to constantly market your self, but reinvent your marketing techniques. Its hard to be unique on the web. Once someone comes out with a unique marketing idea or tactic it spreads like wildfire. Before your know it, everyones doing it and its no longer unique.
Before you jump into freelancing head first, spend some time developing a simple marketing plan. Nothing to complex, just some ideas, goals, and that sort of thing. This basic marketing plan will help you stay on track and measure the success of your marketing tactics.
