Talking Shop Episode 8 – Face Time

It is amazing to me how much of our daily interaction with people happens online. I mean really, when is the last time you actually meet with a client face to face, or even picked up the phone and called them? Clients aside, when is the last time you went out of your way to meet up with peers in your area? I recently watched this video by Gary Vanynerchuk that inspired this video and the actions that I talk about in it.

Talking Shop Episode 8 – Face Time from Danny Outlaw on Vimeo.

What are you thoughts on making time to meet with clients and other in your industry? Do you attend any sort of groups, clubs, or events to meet other in your area? If possible, do you meet with clients face to face? How often do you actually call and talk to clients?

Great topic Danny! Twitter is a tool to bring the community together and we should take advantage of this to bring your community even more close. I don’t see why not. Twtvite can gather people locally that should be used more for meet-ups.

As a designer and an inspirational rebel, I make time to meet with all sorts of people: clients, designers, muses, friends, writers, tree lovers, community activists. I enjoy tweeting but prefer face-to-face interaction because I’m a laughaholic & nothing beats chortling it up with a small group of friends.

    Be fearless,

Agreed. Nothing is better than talking shop and cutting jokes with people face to face. Be it clients or peers.

Yes i agree, talking to people face to face is way better than communicating them online either a client or circle of friends.

With this you can at least knew what can of person he/she is.

I’m a freelance copywriter, and I am very fortunate to have a couple of agencies that use me on a consistent basis. They’re both far away from me. At first I was happy to just relate by email (being the shy writer type) but once I made the effort to go visit them in person, it made a tremendous difference. I feel like more of a team member, they feel more comfortable sending work my way, and I actually get out of the house a couple of times a year!
