Discussion: Where do you want to work from?

I have begun working on my site and e-book about freelancing abroad and it got me thinking about all the cool places I would like to work from. I have already worked from a number of cool places, but there are so many other places Id like to visit.

This weeks discussion is a fun one. I want know….

If you could work from anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would like to work from a boat/ship because it will be anything but stable. What do you know? Great designs show up by mistake too, so when you least expect, your mouse could run loose because of the boat haha.

A shack on a warm, sandy beach – that’s the dream. I live in Canada… I am cold… all the time.

I take it this has no consequences? I mean, in general, I would think you would consider cost-of-living of the area as a measure of if you could sustain your lifestyle in the new location or need to raise your rates. That could be a shock to your clients if they are not local.

Anyways, I currently work out of Hawaii. Instead of being in one single location, I would rather be more mobile and work in different States and Countries every few years or months.

This is a very good discussion. Well, as I work full time with a company, working anywhere but work would be great for me, but I would love to travel the world, and in each country being able to continue the freelance work. Many hot places I would like to visit, but you never know this may well come true in the future, as I am still only young.

With me I would probably have to say some place like Ireland. I love the scenery there and have always wanted to visit. The best part is I have the option of leaving my comfort zone with English and going into the Gaelic pockets and totally immerse myself in their culture.

That last part makes all the difference. If I feel like I visit someplace international and it still feels like the US, I tend to not like it.

I would think a covered deck right off a private beach in warm but not hot whether or somewhere in a woodsy forest cabin, also in warm whether. I guess it would also depend on what i am doing, but warm, serene situations are usually best.

I work from my house and I love it in here. I don’t wanna work from anyplace else but right here. Really, I’d love to take vacations time to time, but when it comes to work, I love being in my room..

I would love to say that I would like to work at home, but I know that the temptation to go crawl into my bed would just be too much. I have never really been good at doing work at home for that reason. I am really digging the whole in transit idea that you all brought up though. I’m not one for boats because I would probably get sea sick, but trains would be awesome. A train moves slow enough for you to really take in all of your surroundings and still not lose them, but it moves fast enough that you would not get board of them. Plus, on a train your movements aren’t as restricted as they are on planes, enabling you to move around and grab inspiration. Not only that, but new people are constantly getting off and on. Different types people from different stops as you go throughout a city, or even on a larger scale throughout the county. I know when I have to clear my head or really think about something it is nice to hop on the subway and put in my headphones and just listen, think, and enjoy the feeling of moving. I know it is not too hard to sketch on trains, unless they are crappy ones that obviously will be jolting around making it impossible to create a clean sketch. However, like someone said above, sometimes a simply mistake could ultimately produce a great design, you never really know.

Currently I work in Cancun Mexico in a job of fulltime (royal resorts), with a panoramic view of lagoon, but I miss work in my house or the beach, because before I worked like freelance. Best regards!

Many may people may prefer a home office. Doing business in the confines of your home that poses a lot of advantages. A home office could mean just the desk where you keep your computer or the room in your home you dedicate to where you work at home. Home businesses are popular, with more and more people doing it, like lawyers, counselors, internet business people, etc. You could even Feng Shui your home office and furnish it with direct deposit payday loans. Since it’s a home business, you can deduct it from taxes. You want to make it comfortable, but not distracting, so leave the PlayStation in the other room. A decent home office might be worth direct deposit payday loans to spruce up.
